Welcome To My Website
A writer. I had never thought of myself as a writer: a student, a wife, a mother, a housecleaner, a performer, a Bible teacher, a clown, a caregiver, a pet sitter, a grandmother, but never a writer, even though I had been writing since I was 16. Writing was something I did for fun or for teaching or to get emotions out. Most of what I wrote was private. It was written, then put away. The first stanza of my poem "I Sit And Write Songs" (1998) says it best:
I sit and write songs that nobody hears.
I write about feelings when nobody cares.
I write about love that nobody shares.
I write about burdens that nobody bears.
(The full poem can be found in my book, Journey to Change)
2017 was a hard year for me. I experienced so many emotional beatings that I withdrew from all my activities, except for pet sitting, to let myself heal. During that time, I realized that I was getting older (65 at the time) and that if I were to die, everything I had written could end up in the trash. So, I decided to make photo books (yes, I am also an amateur photographer) and put my writings in books according to topics using my pictures as backgrounds. These books were meant for my family, but slowly I began to let my friends see them. Most of the poems and writings had never been read by others. It was a scary experience to put my innermost thoughts out for others to pick through, but the response was extremely positive.
Then my son, Will, saw a poem I had written for one of my grandsons and he wanted to illustrate it. So, I Grew was beautifully illustrated and Will found that we could self-publish on Amazon. Thus, in 2018, I officially became a "writer". The excitement of seeing my poem in book form was unbelievable! Then the writings from my Journey to Change photo books were shared with a counselor at my church and he strongly encouraged me to publish them. A friend suggested they be made into a journaling book. So, Journey to Change was published in 2019 and from then till now, I have been on a new adventure.
Many of the books now available are writings from my past, but I am still writing new material, especially poems for kid's books. I am indebted to all my friends and acquaintances who have supported me with their encouragement and by purchasing my books on Amazon. THANK YOU!
